Bulk Deleting Contacts Using An Excel Spreadsheet Follow
- First, make sure the Excel Spreadsheet you are using is saved in .csv format
- Since we only want to make a list of Contacts, and not update any of their information, we only need 1 unique identifier
- The simplest one to use is the Contact's email address
- Delete all columns in the .csv besides the "Email" column
- Go to your HubSpot
- Navigate to your Contacts page
- Click on Import near the top right
- Click Start an import near the top right
- Choose the option "File from computer" and then click Next
- Choose "One file" and click Next
- Choose "One object" then click Next
- Choose "Contacts" then click Next
- Drag and Drop or use choose a file to upload the .csv with only the "Email" column
- DO NOT check/use "Update existing contacts using 'Contact ID' exported from HubSpot"
- (Since we are using the "Email" as the unique identifier, we do not need "Contact IDs")
- Click Next
- Next is the column mapping step
- HubSpot should automatically pick up the only column has "Email" in the header, and map it appropriately
- You might have to Select "Email" manually under "HUBSPOT PROPERTY"
- Click Next
- Choose a unique name for this list so that it is easy to find & use until we are done
- Make sure you check the two boxes to create a list, and agree to the terms
- Click Finish Import
- You will now be automatically taken back to the "Import" page again
- You should see a progress loading circle next to your new import in the list
- How long it takes to load them depends on the size of the list of Contacts
- When it is done you should see a number for ONLY "UPDATED OBJECTS"
- When it is done importing, and you see the number of "UPDATED OBJECTS," hover your mouse of the new import listed, and click View Contacts
- Use the select all check-box
- Click Permanently delete
- (OPTIONAL) If your list contains a large amount of Contacts to delete, select all caps out on how many shown are on the page
- A message will appear and ask if you would like to select all
- Click on the Select all X contacts.
- Then use the More -> Permanently delete
- A confirmation window will pop up
- Type out the number of Contacts you are deleting (20 for this example)
- Click Delete
- Lastly, go to your HubSpot Lists page
- Find the list you just used and delete it using More -> Delete list
- (Note the size of your list should read 0, since we just deleted all the Contacts. The example below reads 20 since I did not delete any)
- That's it!
- You have finished a bulk delete of Contacts using an Excel Spreadsheet
